Maureen Dowd devoted a column to lauding Olson and Boies. Dowd did not waste a paragraph on anything resembling legal analysis, which was perhaps a blessing. Olson told her that maintaining marriage as the union of a man and a woman “has no point at all except some people dont want to recognize gays and lesbians as normal, as human beings.” So now we know what Olson thinks of a majority of Americans and the vast majority of conservatives.

SAN FRANCISCO — Two people were shot near a youth hostel in San Franciscos Fort Mason Wednesday night, a U.S. Park Police spokeswoman said. Park police dispatch received two calls reporting a shooting near the San Francisco Fishermans Wharf Hostel at Fort Mason Building 240 just before 10 p.m., U.S. Park Police spokeswoman Chris Powell said. Arriving officers found two people injured by gunfire. A 22-year-old woman was injured by a bullet that grazed her head, Powell said, and a 17-year-old boy was shot in the stomach.
