NEW YORK — Cantor Exchange wishes to clarify that its applications to be designated
as a Contract Market and registered as a Derivatives Clearing
Organization are still pending before the Commodity Futures Trading
Commission (“CFTC”). To date, the CFTC has taken no formal action to
approve the application.
Cantor Exchange anticipates approval of its applications by April 20,
2010 and, if such approval is received, it will begin trading on April
22, 2010.
Cantor Exchange is allowing approved exchange applicants to pre-fund
their accounts beginning March 15th, 2010. Inasmuch as Cantor
Exchange has not yet received any designation from the CFTC, pre-funded
amounts are not subject to the jurisdiction of the CFTC or any related
customer segregation rules.
To date Cantor Exchange has received approximately 6,000 participant
application requests and is processing these on an expedited basis.
Although Cantor Exchange has informally referred to these applicants as
“customers,” Cantor Exchange strongly encourages the press to use the
more precise term “exchange applicants” until such time as Cantor
Exchange is designated by the CFTC; and “participants” thereafter.
